The Strand Theater, located on Franklin Street in Watertown, New York, opened in 1914 as a modern venue for entertainment. It was initially constructed with state-of-the-art features for the time, including luxurious decor and a focus on providing a premier experience for moviegoers. Though its popularity waned with the rise of multiplex cinemas, The Strand remains a symbol of Watertown’s rich cultural heritage. Efforts have been made to preserve its history and restore its role as a vibrant community space. The Strand offers a beautifully designed main space that includes a welcoming lobby and a versatile theater/event room. These spaces can be arranged to suit your needs—open them up for a seamless flow between the lobby and theater, or keep them as separate rooms to create distinct environments for your event. With seating and table configurations customizable to accommodate between 60 and 150 guests, The Strand is a flexible venue for gatherings of all sizes. Planned renovations will further enhance the space, adding a theater balcony, an upper-floor room, and a rooftop deck to expand your options.

Equipped with a professional sound system and a 14-inch raised stage, the theater/event room also offers convenient double-door access at the back for easy loading and a direct connection to the basement on the other side, which can serve as a backstage area for performances. While The Strand is dedicated to supporting the performing arts—hosting concerts, comedy shows, dance recitals, movie screenings, and theater productions—it is also an exceptional venue for fundraisers, office parties, birthdays, and weddings.
